The Clarksville Community Health Initiative (CHI) is proud to announce a successful online training session held on Saturday, April 13th. This event focused on two critical public health issues: overdose response and the dangers of vaping, particularly for young people.

Equipping the Community for Emergencies

The first training, “Opiate Overdose Response,” was led by Y. Veronica Pei, MD, in partnership with CCACC Health. Dr. Pei provided crucial information on:

  • Understanding opioids and their effects
  • Recognizing the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose
  • Steps to take in the event of an overdose
  • Naloxone: its purpose and administration

Empowering Parents Against Vaping

The second training, “Parents Against Vaping E-cigarettes” ( PAVE), was presented by Cindy Li, a Maryland-certified Community Health Worker and CHI staff member. Ms. Li addressed the growing concern of vaping among youth, including:

  • The addictive nature of vaping products
  • Potential long-term health risks associated with vaping
  • Resources available to help those seeking to quit vaping

Positive Response and Next Steps

The online training was well-received, with over 40 participants attending. CHI has received positive feedback and is committed to providing the community with valuable resources. We will be posting the training video as soon as it’s available.
