Community Health Initiative (CHI), in collaboration with the University of Maryland College of Education, is pleased to offer two free, evidence-based programs for Asian American families and youth in Fall 2026: the Parent & Child Connect Workshop and the Emotional Intelligence Workshop for Youth.
Both programs are led by Dr. Cixin Wang, Professor of School Psychology at the University of Maryland, and combine research-based strategies with interactive activities and practical skills that families can use in everyday life.
Parent & Child Connect Workshop
This supportive 6-week virtual workshop is designed for Asian American parents—including East Asian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian families—who are navigating the challenges of raising school-aged children (PreK–12).
Through evidence-based parenting strategies, supportive discussions, and role-playing activities, parents will learn how to:
- Build a stronger connection with their children
- Support their children’s success in school
- Reduce family stress
- Better navigate cultural differences at home
- Respond effectively to bullying and discrimination
- Strengthen family communication and support their children’s confidence and emotional well-being

Chinese Session: Saturdays, September 19 – October 24, 2026, 7:00–8:45 PM
English Session: Sundays, September 20 – October 25, 2026, 7:00–8:45 PM

Emotional Intelligence Workshop for Youth
This free 6-week interactive program is designed for Asian American students in grades 3–8. Through small-group learning, interactive lessons, games, activities, and role-playing, students will develop important social and emotional skills.
Participants will learn how to:
- Understand and manage emotions
- Build friendships and resolve conflicts
- Manage stress and anxiety
- Prevent and respond to bullying
- Build confidence and healthy self-esteem
- Strengthen communication, social skills, and emotional resilience

Time: 4:00–5:30 PM ET
Location: Online via Zoom
SSL hours may be available with school approval.
